Beyond Style’s Trade Training & Skills Development programs equip women and girls with practical, marketable abilities that open doors to new career pathways and long-term economic stability. Through hands-on instruction, industry-aligned workshops, and supportive coaching, participants gain the confidence and competencies needed to excel in their chosen fields. Whether learning a new trade, strengthening technical skills, or preparing for workforce entry, each woman receives guidance tailored to her goals. From Roots to RECOGNITION: Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now
When the Beyond Style Foundation first asked our community to Wake Up Everybody, the response was phenomenal. But this year, we knew we had to keep that energy moving forward. And family, you did not disappoint.
This year’s annual production, From Roots to Recognition: Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, was nothing short of a triumph. The house was packed, the energy was electric, and the message of resilience echoed from the stage straight into our hearts.
Bridging the Generations Through Art Our creative vision this year was to physically show the passing of the torch. We took the audience on a journey through four vital chapters of our history—from survival and reconstruction to civil rights and the modern era. But the true magic happened when the classic 70s soul of our "Roots" collided with the heavy-hitting, modern hip-hop choreography of our youth. It was a beautiful, visual reminder that while the rhythm may change, the momentum of Black excellence never stops.
Honoring Our Unstoppable Pillars The heart of From Roots to Recognition will always be the people who do the work off-stage. This year, we had the distinct privilege of honoring four incredible Community Pillars. These four individuals have faced adversity, broken barriers, and continuously uplifted our neighborhoods. To our honorees: thank you. You are the living embodiment of the history we celebrated on stage.
The Work Continues To everyone who bought a ticket, shared a post, or cheered from the audience: thank you for trusting the Beyond Style Foundation. You are the reason this production is a staple in our community.
The stage may be dark for now, but the work of the Beyond Style Foundation never stops. We are already laying the groundwork for next year’s Roots to Recognition experience.

Meet Our President
Teisha Carter, Founder
Teisha Carter is the Founder and President of Beyond Style, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to enhancing self-image and mental health awareness. With over 30 years as a business owner and 35 years as a professional hair stylist, Teisha has helped countless individuals express their confidence through personal style. She has seen firsthand how a person’s outward presentation can influence their inner sense of value, shaping how they show up in the world personally, socially, and professionally.
For more than 16 years, Teisha also served as a youth ministry outreach director, mentoring young people and supporting their emotional and spiritual growth. Her work with youth deepened her passion for mental wellness, empowerment, and creating safe spaces where individuals can embrace their worth. Through Beyond Style, Teisha leads a mission to uplift, educate, and inspire—bridging self-image and mental well-being to create lasting, positive impact in the community and beyond.

Through open discussion, storytelling, and collective encouragement, attendees leave feeling lighter, more supported, and more confident in who they are.
